Background and History

Caravan Trading Company is a family owned and operated wholesale bakery. We have been in operation since 1975 and were founded by Joe and Carmen Maroun. Our 108,000 sqft facility is in Union City, CA. Caravan Trading Company is a large wholesale bakery that produces baked goods for wholesale, food service and retail trades. We produce Bagels, Frozen Danish, Croissant, Puff Dough, Sweet Goods, Pound/Coffee Cakes, Muffins, Cinnamon Rolls, Scones, Pita Bread, Specialty breads, Hispanic Pastries/Pan Dulce, Mexican Breads, and Bagel Sandwiches. 

Caravan Trading Company built its business over the past 30 years primarily as a co-packer. We are one of the largest bagel producing companies on the west coast, producing over 44,000 bagels per hour. We have shared many successful years producing outstanding products and co-packing for baking companies including George Weston Bakeries. We produced in excess 18 million packages of Thomas' bagels last year. We also produce products for Bimbo/Oroweat, Otis Spunkmeyer, the Department of Defense and various other food service companies and distributors. Most recently, our company responded to the needs of the community for disaster awareness with the launch of our Ready-To-Go Emergency Food Kit.

Over the past several years, we have expanded into the retail trade with our own brand of fine baked goods under the Pangea World Bakers and Panaderia Mi Colonia brands. Pangea World Bakers is an extensive line of retail packaged and individually wrapped bakery products capable of serving retail grocery, foodservice and convenience store applications.

Our second brand, Panaderia Mi Colonia is our authentic line of Hispanic pastry. We are one of the largest wholesale Hispanic sweet good manufacturers in the country. Caravan Trading Company currently supplies many chain and independent markets directly with our pastry and sweet bread products.

Caravan Trading Company has also developed extensive knowledge in extended shelf-life bakery products. We have developed and provide both MRE and UGR combat to the United States Military for the past seven years. We supply many customers in the country with baked goods for use in the combat and training feeding programs. In response to increasing disaster awareness and the need for preparedness, we recently developed the Ready-To-Go Emergency Food kit. It is a self-contained, ready-to-serve supply of food and water for one person for 3 days. It is available through the Bay Area Red Cross, our website and select Sam's Club.
